Program - English Language & Literature
English Language and Literature, Applied Linguistics, and Translation Studies significantly contribute to humanities and social sciences. Literary development phases reflect societal nuances, capturing the human psyche and political shifts, highlighting both societal challenges and strengths. The PhD program explores diction, narratology, plot, and other elements to interpret and analyze literary phenomena, including morpho-phonemic, syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, stylistic, and semiotic studies, alongside translation and transliteration.
English Language Pedagogy focuses on teaching methods, emphasizing emergent methodologies, reflective practice, standardized and authentic materials, and assessment mechanisms (norm-referenced, criterion-referenced, and beyond). These form key components of various PhD projects. The program adheres to the structure prescribed by the University and embodies compassion-driven research, as envisioned by Her Holiness Amma.

Admission Procedure
ELIGIBILITY
FULL TIME PHD
B. Tech / M. Tech in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Automobile, Civil, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Equivalent Degrees.
applicants are expected to have strong academic records.
PART TIME PHD
Applicants who have a full-time appointment at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham or at another academic/ R&D organization are eligible to apply for part-time admission. Other eligibility requirements of such applicants are same as full time applicants. Part Time students are permitted to proceed at a slower pace in completing their doctoral requirements.
INTEGRATED PHD
Exceptional students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree at Amrita will be allowed to apply for the Integrated Ph.D. program subject to the requirement that he or she completes all the requirements of the Bachelor's or Master's degree prior to 'advancement to candidacy'
DUAL DEGREE PHD
Exceptional students who satisfy the eligibility requirements of Amrita and that of Amrita's International Partner University (IPU), as stated in the Dual PhD. MoU signed between Amrita and the IPU, are eligible for admission to the Dual PhD program.
